OUR PLEDGE:
we’re not pulling your leg, promise
Team skirts, lovers of dresses, this one’s for you.
Tights are part of our everyday. Only problem: a typical pair of tights is polluting to produce and difficult to recycle. And of course, their life cycle is relatively short… tights are fragile little things.
We can’t go on like this. Without further ado, we are acting upon our decisions - with your help - to limit the Gambettes Box’s environmental impact.

By late 2020, we pledge to:

Use only recycled materials to produce our tights

Create all our beachwear outfits with eco-sourced materials, starting from summer 2020

Rethink our packaging

Solutions for fighting pollution
The trouble with tights as they are currently produced?

Their production generates a lot of pollution, because they are woven out of a mix of polyamide and Spandex: both plastic derivatives.
They cannot be recycled, because Spandex must be recycled separately from polyamide. And the technology for that doesn’t exist (yet).

Our supplier, a family-owned company based in Italy near Lake Garda (remember them?), agrees we should rethink this whole system, so we started searching for solutions together.
How we plan to tackle the problem:
RECYCLING
As early as April 2020, we were able to bring you our first-ever tights woven with spare thread, a raw material that usually gets thrown away without being used. And BAM, in your face, waste.
POLLUTING LESS
Spare thread is ALSO less polluting, but doesn’t compromise comfort and shape.

nocive substances
You won’t feel the difference, but the environment will.
What about Gambettes
style?
Are we going to lose our signature style for the sake of the environment? No. Sure, these techniques make creating certain patterns more difficult, but we’re working hard to keep every fiber of style. We’ve got a reputation to keep up!

Transportation matters
too
We couldn’t be eco-responsible without taking in account how to bring your tights to your mailbox. It’s best to stay in Europe as regards production and transport. Our tights are made in Italy and slipped in their Box in France: that’s a 900-kilometer distance. Most importantly, your tights don’t fly: no planes, that’s far too much CO2!

What’s next in 2021?
OK, we’ll tell you our dream: biodegradable tights you could toss in the compost bin,
letting them little by little *POOF* disappear. We’re not there yet, but we’ve started working
with a promising ingredient: castor oil…
Gambettes beachwear
Every summer, the Gambettes Box swaps tights for beachwear outfits.
We cook up 3 outfits (shorts, romper, skirt, dress) to show off your legs.

A 100% green summer forever
We want to be green all year round, not just in the winter. Producing summer looks can also require a lot of water.
But from 2020 onwards, no summer shall be without eco-designed outfits.
Soft and virtuous cotton
For summer 2020, we’ve worked on a product
made of organic, GOTS-certified cotton:

than typical cotton

(softer on the earth and on your skin too btw)
Eco-friendly viscose
Viscose is derived from wood cellulose, a natural raw material…
The problem is, its production process generates a lot of pollution.
To keep designing outfits with viscose, which makes outfits light and flowy,
we got our hands on the Lenzing-certified Ecovero viscose:

is needed for production compared to typical viscose

What about 2021?
Next summer, we want to go even further
and bring you upcycled outfits, to reduce waste even further.
What about transportation?
All of this travels by boat, not by plane,
of course. Environmental impact is
therefore 60 times lower.
MISSION: LESS WASTE
We started counting everything that went into our Box each month: an envelope, a box, a brochure, two cardboard holders for each pair of tights. A little too much, isn’t it? So we decided to reduce things drastically.

The Gambettes expert diagnosis
To eco-design the perfect Box, we needed the opinion of experts.
The Gambettes Club, composed of our most devoted subscribers, gave us their feedback:

To be redesigned

it’s not fantastic
To reduce the waste generated by the Gambettes Box, we’ve changed two things:
1. To half the paper consumption, we’ve reduced the paper you find inside the Box now. We’ve simply redesigned the formats, so the content you love is still there.
2. To be more nature-friendly, we’ve chosen eco-designed packs that are less impactful on the environment both when produced and discarded. We’ve prioritized 100% recycled and recyclable materials and chosen PEFC paper from sustainably-managed forests. Oh, what about plastic? We’ve said adieu.

Recycling your Box

All the paper used for your Gambettes is recyclable, so don’t worry: recycling bin and chill. We know you know, but now you can be 100% sure.
Tights: a life cycle
You wear them once, twice, you dance, run, work in them… And one day, they rip. After the initial minute of regret and annoyance, what happens?
Long live your tights

How do you make your tights last? Tbh, it’s sometimes a matter of luck, because anything can cause a tear. And there’s not much we can do. But we’ve got a few tips that can make all the difference from handling your laundry to the art of the washing net… Let us show you!
My tights have torn. What now?
Our dream: directly recycle used tights to make new ones. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy. For technical reasons, it’s not possible yet (see our « tights » section for all the details).
We’ve racked our brains to find a plan B. This is how we brought you our Twist Again campaign in February 2020: a tights collection that we reused in other industries.
We’re already working on the next solution, which will be long-term. We’ll keep you posted ASAP.
Got any ideas on how to reuse torn tights?
New life, who dis
A pair of ripped tights doesn’t belong to the trash: it still has potential. You can use it to make hair ties, tawashi sponges… We’ve made a compilation of the best ideas.
